[laughter] >> and you're doing a great job. >> thank you, boo boo. thank you, steve. teaching my students, under studies at georgetown university, but before i continue with this process, i just wanted to also thank the members of the presidential inaugural committee who provided us with tickets. i hope you got tickets if you didn't see them, and their amazing work and, really, putting together a very exciting weekend here in our nation's capitol. i want to thank them for the day of service that not only took place here in washington, d.c., but across the united states of america. millions of people signed up, volunteered, and made a difference. dr. martin luther king, jr. would have been proud we used his birthday weekend not just to party and celebrate, but to remember what he called us often to do, and that, ladies and gentlemen, is to serve and to answer the call, and, yet, i want to thank the dnc staff and others who worked throughout the christmas and throughout the holidays to ensure we also had a good time as well. so my only thing, i was working yesterday. you want me to shut up?

so. representative steve stockman from texas said "i will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the whouite house and filing articles of impeachment." digging in his heels president obama says he will not trade cuts in spending in exchange for raising the borrowing limit. he says trimming the budget deficit should be a different discussion. >> to even entertain the idea of this happening, of the united states of america not paying its bills, is irresponsible. >> house speaker john boehner responded to this by saying the american people do not support raising the debt ceiling without reducing government spending at the same time. you can see the battle lines there very clearly. are you in hawaii or headed there? think twice. beware of getting in the water. check out this video. that's right, sharks near oahu's yokohama beach, two sharks were spotted swimming very, very dangerously close to the shore. i hope that guy's feet are not in the water. >> wow, that is super shallow. >> if steve stock

. steve in illinois, democratic caller. here is, showing that we have reached the ceiling, but we will run out of money in mid february or march. go ahead. caller: yes, i believe in a few things the previous caller said, about giving away free phones. i think people get food stamps plus go to food pantries and get food and they have plenty of food. i have seen them sell their food stamps. there is a lot of waste and fraud and abuse in the lower portion. if you want to take a look and see the waste, fraud, and abuse in the military spending and so forth, it is on both sides of the poincoin. we have to take a look at both sides. today our soldiers are coming home in this wasteful war. they are killing themselves faster than they are killing themselves in afghanistan. host: that is a headline this morning, steve, in the papers. caller: we need to get these veterans some help, too, so they stop killing themselves. it is -- you are drawing matchsticks to see which ones have the shortest ones. we do have to cut out some of the waste. we should go by waste first before we should

needs to be done. congressman steve stockman has introduced a bill to repeal the gun-free school zone toss get rid of that school zone loophole where people can carry basically all over the country except at places of work like a school where they fear prosecution, and that's what -- jenna: eric is calling this a loophole, lori where people know that they can come into the school grounds and that they are not going to meet anyone that is armed. the argument there is that we are leaving our children really open and defenseless. what do you think about that? >> i disagree with the gentleman. here is the thing. americans do not want to live in an armed society. we do not want a gun machine at every corpse, every church, every movie theater, frankly every school. we do not need this. we would like to live in a gun violence-free world, and arming more and more people is not the solution. americans are with us on that. they want their children in a classroom with a teacher engaging in the reason they are there, education. we should not ask our teachers to be armed. they have come out agains

his gun safety measures. texas rep steve stockman issued the warning yesterday saying he will introduce articles of impeachment if obama uses executive order to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. stockman claims a use of that power by the president would be unconstitutional and an existential threat to the nation. this is not the first time he's taken a controversial stance on guns. during his first term in the house, his office was slow to turn over a letter to the fbi that appeared to contain evidence about the oklahoma city bombings. last week, he proposed a repeal of all gun-free zones in schools. it looks like president obama might have to issue executive order if he wants anything done on gun control. joe biden's task force will likely propose a ban on high-capacity clips and on assault weapons but majority leader harry reid says something like that might pass the senate but he doubts it has any chance of passing the house. state governors though are making some progress on new gun laws. new york's andrew cuomo and other lawmakers from the state reached a deal
